Boston Nature Center
Great for new and old volunteers looking to get their hands dirty at the Boston Nature Center Food Forest! This interactive workshop will start with a walk through of the site as we learn to identify patterns found in nature, and practice “scatter vision” and other ways of seeing. We will then dive into basics of companion planting and polycultures – practicing how to design using niches. We will brainstorm some good companion plantings for our biome and region. After sharing in the collective wisdom of all present, we will then share the basics of food forest design through a brief tour of our flagship site. We wrap up with some plantings and active work in a specific section of the food forest, adding good companions to existing fruit trees.
