Applied Permaculture 11: Winterizing the food forest and processing acorns
$40.00 – $80.00
Learn how to protect your young trees from winter’s frost!
Back again: our popular acorn processing workshop!
Morning: Winter is the time when most trees and shrubs in New England go dormant, but, that doesn’t mean you don’t need to take care of them! Your trees and shrubs have stored their energy in their roots so they can burst forth when Spring returns. In this workshop you will learn how winterize your trees for a good rest, how to protect them from a winter sunburn (yes, really!), and how to protect them from critters like deer, rabbits, and voles.
Afternoon: For thousands of years, acorns were a staple food for people around the world. Today, there is a renewed interest in these delicious and free nuts. Unprocessed acorns are bitter and unpalatable, but processed acorns have a sweet taste with a hint of vanilla and can be used for a variety of baking projects. In this workshop you will learn simple steps to process acorns using tools you can find in your own kitchen.
You can take this course as part of the Applied Permaculture Series.
