Applied Permaculture 6: Tree health and building a trellis.
$40.00 – $80.00
Take this workshop to learn how to support your fruit trees’ health and how to build a beautiful espalier or trellis to support a fruiting vine.
Morning: Trees and plants have many natural mechanisms to maintain their health and ward off pests and diseases. But sometimes, if a disease or a pest strikes, we can lend a helping hand. In this workshop you will learn how to support your trees’ health, how to recognize some common diseases and pests, and organic methods to deal with them. Our instructor is a professional arborist with years of experience, who maintains the fruit trees of the Boston Nature Center.
Afternoon: An espalier or trellis can have multiple functions in your food forest. It adds beauty and structure to your design, creates a cozy sitting space, and can be used to grow fruit trees in a very small space, or to support vining fruits like hardy kiwi. In this workshop, you will learn how to construct an espalier with simple tools and easily available materials. Our instructor is the owner of an existing food forest in the Boston area with trellises and espaliers.
You can take this course as part of the Applied Permaculture Series.
