Applied Permaculture 8: Learning to use a scythe and medicinal herbalism
$40.00 – $80.00
Learn how to use a scythe – the ancient and ecological human-powered way to mow your grass!
Learn what herbs you can integrate into your food forest to benefit your health – and that of your plants!
Morning: Scything used to be a common practice to mow grass and make hay. It is meditative, quiet, and – once you get the hang of it – quite effective. In this workshop you will learn how to safely handle a scythe and the proper swing technique to efficiently cut grass and meadows. Our instructor is a farmer who practiced scything on his farm and has given many workshops on urban farming.
Afternoon: Herbs are an essential part of most polycultures and food forests. In this workshop, you will learn about the medicinal uses of many common plants, like nettle, peppermint, comfrey, chamomile, bee balm, and many more! You will also learn how these important plants support your food forest’s health while helping you maintain your own physical health.
You can take this course as part of the Applied Permaculture Series.
