Savin Hill, a previously vacant Dorchester plot overlooking Southeast Expressway, is in the process of being transformed into a community garden and gathering space. In addition to flowers, plans include an outdoor lending library and exercise equipment. As Mayor Martin Walsh said of the project, “The coalition will continue to work closely with the community to create what will truly be an urban oasis.” The site’s pre-existing features, such as mature trees, puddingstone ledges, and gradual slope, will be accented and embellished with the additions to create a vibrant, flexible space.
